Mary Lou Alberetti spoke on her ceramics and her travels to the Candlewood Art Funds, Art Talk on May 29.  Art Talk and the CAF enrich the arts in the New Fairfield area.
Plonia Nixon won Best in show at the 2008 CLA (Candlewood League of Artists) Juried Show this spring held at the Richter House from May 17 through May 25.  Charles Gehm won the Arena Warwick Memorial award.

Apr 26-27 John Dye '92  presented his work along with that of his dad, Professor Frank Dye, at the Richter House 100 Aunt Hack Road in Danbury with a reception on April 27 at 3 pm. Click here to see pictures from the reception.
 
Apr. 22 Painter Jim Peters http://home.comcast.net/~middledune/ discussed his work in Viewing Room 1 of White Hall on the WestConn Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Since the prestigious CDS Gallery in New York began showing his works in 1984, Peters has emerged as one of the masters of contemporary American painting over the past two decades. His works have earned numerous awards and acclaim from art critics of The New York Times, The New Yorker, Art in America and other national publications. A frequent participant in museum and gallery exhibitions across the United States and abroad, Peters' paintings are owned by the William Benton Museum, the Solomon Guggenheim Museum, the University of Connecticut and other significant collections worldwide. The event will be free and open to the public, and it will be presented as part of the university's Master of Fine Arts slide lecture series
Apr. 10  Illustrator Daniel Adel http://www.danieladel.com/ discussed his work in Viewing Room 1 of White Hall on the WestConn Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. A graduate of Dartmouth College, Adel's illustrations have been featured for more than two decades in national magazines and newspapers including The New Yorker, Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Forbes and Esquire. He has been a frequent exhibitor at New York galleries and museums, including three solo shows at the Soho gallery Arcadia Fine Arts, and contributed illustrations to the 2001 Lincoln Center production of "Ten Unknowns." Since 2005 he has shown his works at the Atelier Rue Basse gallery and studio in the Provencal village of Lacoste in France. The event will be free and open to the public, and it will be presented as part of the university's Master of Fine Arts slide lecture series.

Rolandas Kiaulevicius '05 Mar 29 An extraordinary show on an ordinary Saturday with Rolandas Kiaulevicius MFA '06 A duo of the artists, GIRO (Gintaras Jocius ir Rolandas Kiaulevicius), continue marching through The United States of America. With a new and exciting program, they just performed in Boston (11/18/2007) and Chicago (12/08/20087. More information about this unusual project can be found at www.ginart.com We would like to invite everyone to see this unbelievable show  at Let's Dance in Rhythm on Saturday March 29 at 7:30 pm. Dance Studio in Branford, CT. The program will include:

Mar 25 Artist Lois Dodd http://www.alexandregallery.com/dodd/html/dodd_Frameset.html discussed her work at 11 a.m. in Viewing Room 1 of White Hall on the WestConn Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Recognized as one of the most influential American artists in the latter half of the 20th century, Dodd was a founder of the Tanager Gallery, a legendary New York artists' cooperative from 1952 to 1962, and later joined the Green Mountain Gallery and Fischbach Gallery as a regular exhibitor over nearly four decades. Now represented by the Alexandre Gallery in New York, she has exhibited widely across the United States, and her works are part of the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, the National Academy of Design, the Wadsworth Museum and other prestigious art institutions. The event will be free and open to the public, and it will be presented as part of the university's Master of Fine Arts slide lecture series.
Mounira Stott MFA '04 will be exhibiting at the Gunn Memorial Library in Washington, CT.  The exhibition will run from March 22 to April 26.  The opening reception was March 22nd.  Click here to see images from the show.
Artist Norman Green discussed his work Mar 6 at 11 a.m. in Viewing Room 1 of White Hall on the WestConn Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. During a career spanning more than 35 years, Green has exhibited his illustrations, paintings and design art at a wide range of venues including the Museum of Decorative Arts at the Louvre in Paris, and the Mead and Greengrass galleries in New York. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York and visiting instructor at WestConn and Pratt Institute, Green has earned numerous awards from the Society of Illustrators and is a frequent exhibitor at the society's galleries in New York and San Francisco. The event will be free and open to the public, and it will be presented as part of the university's Master of Fine Arts slide lecture series
Art historian David Cohen discussed his work on February 21 at 11 a.m. in Viewing Room 1 of White Hall on the WestConn Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Cohen, who holds a master's degree from Courtauld Institute of Art at the University of London, has established a reputation as a leading art historian and critic. His published works include numerous books, exhibition catalogues, journal articles and commentaries in the press, including his weekly "Gallery Going" column in the New York Sun. As gallery director at the New York Studio School, he has curated influential exhibitions of works by Matisse and by contemporary artists including Ruth Miller, George Nick, Milton Resnick and Eric Holzman. Cohen also is much sought after as a guest educator and lecturer at leading British and U.S. art institutions. http://www.artcritical.com/DavidCohen/index.htm  The event will be free and open to the public, and it will be presented as part of the university's Master of Fine Arts slide lecture series.
Illustrator David Johnson discussed his work February 7 at 11 a.m. in Viewing Room 1 of White Hall. Johnson embarked on a celebrated career at age 19 as a freelance contributor of drawings to National Lampoon and CBS Records, and honed his skills as an illustrator for the New York Times Book Review. His pen and ink portraits remain a mainstay in the Review and appear widely in Time, The Atlantic Monthly, The Wall Street Journal, Esquire and other national publications. Recipient of gold and silver medal awards from the Society of Illustrators in New York, he also is acclaimed for his book illustrations.

Mary Lou and Robert Alberetti, opened on Saturday, January 26 with a reception from 1 pm - 3 pm at The Marie Louise Trichet Gallery at Wisdom House with the exhibit, "Portals". MFA Visiting Artist - Matthew Lopas, a painter, on January 24 in Viewing Room 1 in White Hall at 11 AM.  Matthew Lopas was born in 1965 in Chicago .  An Artist all his life, he has been painting interiors lit by warm light for about ten years.  For him interiors without figures often suggest the people that inhabit the space – the presence of an absence.  Lopas has shown in Chicago, Connecticut, Atlanta, and Little Rock .  He is currently represented by New Arts Gallery in Bantam, CT. Visit his website at www.matthewlopas.com
The Art of Michael Whelan: An Illustrated Lecture on January 20 from 2 - 4 pm at the Danbury Library in the Farioly Room.  Michael, an advisor to the MFA program is one of the world's premier fantasy and science fiction artists, creating more than 350 book and album covers and winning an unprecedented 15 Hugo Awards (science fiction's Oscars). Rolandas Kiaulevicius MFA '06 on November 18th, 2007 at 1PM, with GIRO Jocius  providing a distinctive exhibit/performance “The Musical Painting”. During the opening of the exhibit they will be painting to the captivating sounds of the classical music. The inspirations for “The Musical Painting” will come directly from the live performance of pianist Daiva Navickiene and saxophonist Vitalijus Lisovskis. Maryann Meken-Sivestri '76 was juried into the Westport creative arts show.  She writes: "Just thought I'd let you know that the Westport Creative Arts Festival  is November 17 & 18 at Staples HS on North Ave in Westport.  The artwork is  high end......no junk ......they have been doing this for the last 32 years.
  It might be a good place to find some unusual Christmas gifts.  The hours  are Sat. & Sun. 10-4.  Breakfast preview (for a higher admission fee) at  8:30 on Sat.  This is one of the top 10 shows in the Northeast.
