Why Biology at WestConn?

Get to know your professors.
Since class size is small, you have a chance to really know your professors. In most cases, your lecture instructor is also your lab instructor.

Conduct your own research.
Picture yourself in a high-tech lab, or in the field collecting ecological data. At WestConn, all biology undergraduates -- and many graduate students -- do independent research under the supervision of a faculty mentor. Some student research is presented at regional or national meetings, or published in scientific journals.

Study in a nature preserve literally at your doorstep.
WestConn maintains its own nature preserve of forests and wetlands on the Westside Campus. A number of biology courses and research projects use the preserve as a natural laboratory.

Prepare for a professional career.
Many of our graduates have gone on to medical, dental, or other professional and graduate schools. Others have found employment in regional pharmaceutical companies or environmental organizations. Co-ops are available as an introduction to the professional world. Many students also gain valuable experience working as student assistants in the department.

Programs in Biology

Our programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree will provide you with the background required to succeed in a wide variety of fields such as cell and molecular biology, medicine, ecology & environmental science, and science education. A core of science courses provides a solid foundation while electives allow you to pursue your special interests.

The Master of Arts program in Biological and Environmental Sciences provides an opportunity for advanced study that will enable students to: (1) pursue industrial, public service, or technical careers in biological and environmental sciences; (2) upgrade their knowledge in support of secondary school teaching; (3) prepare them for further studies towards a Ph.D. in Biology.

Come visit our state-of-the-art facility, sit in on a class, hang out with students in the Biology Club room, or chat with faculty. We're located on the Midtown Campus at the corner of Osborne St & James Roach Ave. For directions to the campus, click on the map.
