The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not "Eureka!" but "That's funny..."
-Isaac Asimov

The American Chemical Society Student Affiliates Chapter of Western Connecticut State University is dedicated to helping students understand the intricacies of chemistry, in addition to, sharing a passion for chemistry with the WCSU community. Membership is open to all interested students, including non-chemistry majors.

The Chemistry Club provides opportunities for students to explore various areas of chemistry through guest speakers, field trips, and daily discourse with faculty and students. Past speakers have included forensic scientists, chemists in pharmaceutical industry/cosmetics, and scientists in home land security. During the 2007-2008 academic year, the club will host four guest speakers, who will address current career opportunities in the sciences. In addition, two field trips are scheduled for the Fall and Spring semesters. Keep an eye out for advertisements on campus!

Through free tutoring and monthly meetings, we hope to foster academic growth and camaraderie among students. Free tutoring is available for students in General Chemistry, Concepts of Chemistry, Everyday Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry. Please check the Chem. Club room for the Fall 2007 tutor schedule.

Finally, the Chemistry Club encourages students to attend annual meetings of the American Chemical Society. These meetings allow students to interact with prestigious, international scientists and gain insight to scientific research and career advancement. In the past, students have traveled to Anaheim, CA, San Diego, CA, Orlando, FL and Chicago, IL to attend the national meeting of the American Chemical Society. This year, students will travel to the city of New Orleans in Louisiana.
