The study of English is central to a liberal arts education. The English Department at Western Connecticut State University is dedicated to providing students with a high-quality education in English language and literature. Our curriculum is designed to stimulate student curiosity and to reward critical engagement.

Our academic programs prepare students to enter fields where knowledge of texts, historical contexts, written and oral communication, and the powers of analysis and critical thinking are vital. While many of our students find themselves well-prepared to teach English in elementary and secondary schools and to pursue graduate study in English, the English major will help prepare students for success in any field, such as law, publishing, marketing, and advertising. English is indeed the degree for life.

Our website contains information about the department’s undergraduate and graduate degree programs, our courses, the faculty, and resources for students. If you need additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you!
