Advanced Certificate Program in Interdisciplinary Gerontological Studies

Why Study Gerontology?

With the demographic explosion of the U.S. aging population, careers in older adult services will experience tremendous growth in the coming years, particularly in the area of health care and human services. WestConn is pleased to offer a unique post-baccalaureate, 12 credit, Certificate Program in Interdisciplinary Gerontological Studies. The emphasis of this program is based on a wellness approach to aging. This program is both the first of its kind within the CSU system, and within the western region of Connecticut and northeast region of New York, and is the collaborative effort by five of WestConn's academic departments (i.e., Nursing, Health Promotion and Exercise Sciences, Management, Social Work, and Psychology).

The Certificate Program is designed to academically prepare, at the graduate level, health care and human service providers for the growing population of older adults in the western region of Connecticut. Program participants will enhance and advance their knowledge and practice of gerontological issues facing society, and will be prepared to assume leadership positions in the field of gerontology.
