WCSU honors Dr. John Murphy as 'Entrepreneur of the Year'
Dr. John Murphy, president and chief executive officer of the Western Connecticut Health Network, received the 2011 Macricostas Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Western Connecticut State University at a luncheon held on Oct. 5.
Murphy was honored at a luncheon in the Ballroom of the Westside Campus Center on the WCSU Westside campus in Danbury. Funding for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award is provided by a grant from the foundation of Brookfield industrialist and philanthropist Constantine “Deno” Macricostas and his wife Marie.
WCSU lecture highlights little-known Italian region of Puglia
Western Connecticut State University hosted a lecture on a little-recognized but vibrant section of Italy to honor the memory of a man who was prominent in several arenas in Danbury and Connecticut.
John F. Azzariti, who passed away in 2008, was a businessman who also supported several organizations, including WCSU’s Ancell School of Business.
Robert and Dianne Yamin receive Community Service Award for years of volunteering and leadership
The WCSU Foundation annually recognizes leaders of the community who have devoted themselves to improving circumstances for their neighbors.
This year, the honorees were Robert and Dianne Yamin, who each have made a difference in their own areas of expertise, and who together are one of the most respected couples in the region.

Danbury accounting firm Fiorita, Kornhaas and Company P.C. received the Distinguished Community Service Award at the annual WestConn Society Luncheon held March 2010.
11th Annual Holiday Wine Tasting
WestConn hosted its 11 Annual Holiday Wine Tasting on Nov. 8 to raise funds for the Caraluzzi Scholarship Endowment in the Grand Ballroom of the Westside Campus Center. The event featured fine wines from around the world, a generous buffet of foods prepared by local chefs, and a silent auction.
Summer brunch celebrates the School of Visual and Performing Arts
Longtime WestConn patrons Roy and Ginny Young opened their home to 100 people for a celebration of the School of Visual and Performing Arts. Guests who attended the June 2009 event were treated to a sampling of what the school has accomplished and also heard some hints of what it might yet achieve.
Golden Circle Luncheon
Golden Circle alumni who graduated 70 years ago or more are known as our Golden Circle “Diamond Ring” members. At the Golden Circle luncheon held in September 2009, in Warner Hall on the Midtown campus, six “Diamond Ring” members were in attendance: Alice Hickey, Phyllis (Halpine) Krikscium, Frieda (Korntheuer) Maxwell, Mary (Travaglini) Mitchell and Ruth (Pester) Wilson.
