The goal of Media Services is to provide the WestConn community with the optimum media and media technology to support instruction and promotion of the university. Media Services assesses, implements and supports media technologies, produces the highest quality media materials, and educates the university community on the use and application of media and media technology.
idc
The Instructional Design Center (IDC), located in Media Services WH 013, is a PC lab for faculty and staff to use on their own or with the assistance of a media staff member. It is intended to be used for the creation of digital media and includes the necessary hardware, software and peripherals to: transfer analog formats to digital (e.g. VHS to digital such as Windows Media), create presentations such as Powerpoint or Flash, and to edit video, stills, etc.
viewing rooms
Two viewing rooms, located in the basement of White Hall, are available for faculty and staff to use when showing media to their classes. White Hall 025 seats up to 50 people and White Hall 026 seats up to 43 people. Both rooms include DVD/CD players, VCRs, PCs and laptop connections. A 6 x 8 foot image is displayed in these climate controlled rooms. Both Viewing Rooms have 6.1 surround sound. The rooms cannot be reserved more than one week in advance.
special events
Audio and video equipment can be set up for special events and meetings. Equipment must be requested at least one week in advance. If your event is scheduled in the Student Center, Pinney Hall, The Ives Concert Hall or The O'Neill Center you should contact those areas directly.
production
Professional quality video production services are available for instructional and promotional purposes. The Media Services staff can assist you with the production of your own video including scripting, shooting and editing.
wcsu-tv
WCSU-TV is comprised of three television channels which are broadcast to the university community. WCSU-TV provides students, faculty, and staff with a venue to air educational, informational, and entertainment programs to the university. Channel 24 hosts mtvU which airs music, news, and information. Channel 79 airs university produced programming and Residence Life Cinema. Channel 80 airs information through the campus bulletin system.
