Dr. Robyn Gangi
Adjunct Instructor of Music
Secondary Music Methods (Choral)
Dr. Robyn Gangi is currently Director of Choral Arts in the secondary school in Monroe, Connecticut where he was honored as Teacher of the Year 1997-1998. There he conducts a 200 voice Concert Choir, a 75-voice select Chamber Choir, and a 24-voice by-invitation-only Camarata. Dr. Gangi has appeared as guest conductor for seven consecutive years at the annual Messiah Sing-In in Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, New York. He has also conducted two vocal ensembles in Fairfield County, the Westport Singers and The Five Seasons. He has been invited to present his work in choral music education at the Connecticut ACDA convention, Sacred Heart University and Fairfield University. Dr. Gangi has studied choral and orchestral conducting with Margaret Hillis of the Chicago Symphony Chorus; Otto Werner-Mueller of the Juilliard School of Music and Curtis Institute of Music; Joseph Flummerfelt and Fraake Hausemann of the Westminster Choir College; Robert Page of Carnegie Mellon University; Elaine Brown of the Singing City of Philadelphia and Temple University.
As a professional tenor, Dr Gangi sang full time for seven years as a soloist in New York productions of contemporary opera as well as oratorio work while continuing studies in voice at the Juillard School of Music with Daniel Ferro, teacher of Kathleen Battle; Beverly Johnson, teacher of Renee Fleming; and with Mahon Bishop who was associated with the Young Artists Program at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He also coached with Martin Katz, accompanist to Marilyn Horne, Cecilia Bartoldi and Dame Kiri TeKanawa; Brian Zeger, accompanist to Deborah Voigt and Kathleen Battle and currently teaching at Juilliard; George Malloy, accompanist to Martina Arroyo and Eileen Farrell.
