MARCH EVENTS

Mar. 1 - 16 ART EXHIBIT:  An exhibition of works from WestConn's collection will be displayed from Wednesday, Feb. 24, through Tuesday, March 16, at the Higgins Hall Gallery in Room 101 of Higgins Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and is open to the public. The works are assembled from various collections on the Midtown campus, most notably the Truman Warner Anthropological Collection from the archives at the Haas Library. Mar. 11 - 13 THEATRE PRODUCTION - "A FLEA IN HER EAR" :  The WestConn theatre arts department will present "A Flea in Her Ear" in the Berkshire Theatre in Berkshire Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 11; Friday, March 12; and Saturday, March 13, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, March 13. Mar. 13 - 14 HOME SHOW:  WestConn will host the Western New England Home Show from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Feldman Arena in the William O'Neill Athletic and Convocation Center on the university's Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Home improvement companies will display their products and answer questions during the two-day event. Tickets will be $6 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and free for children under 12. Mar. 18 POLITICAL SCIENCE LECTURE:  Tom Thompson, of Technipower Systems in Danbury, will discuss the solar energy industry from 5:25 to 6:25 p.m. during a political science class in Room 231 of White Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Mar. 22 ACCESSIBILITY WORKSHOP (WCSU new and prospective students only) The WCSU Office of AccessAbility Services will hold a workshop to explain the types of accommodations and services available to students at 4 p.m. in Room 207 of the Student Center on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Information provided will include the differences between accommodations in high school and college; the types of classroom, housing and campus accommodations, services and assistive technology that are available; how to request accommodations and services; and more. Connecticut architect/sculptor Tom Luckey, who had an accident resulting in quadriplegia at the height of his career, will be the keynote speaker. Apr. 19 - Apr. 23 ANIMATION FESTIVAL:  The ninth annual WestConn computer animation festival, AniFest '10, will feature continuous showings of student-produced computer animation short features daily from April 19 through 23 in the Student Center Theater on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Other highlights of the festival will include an "Art of Animation" poster exhibition in the Student Center and a lecture at 7 p.m. on April 22 in the Student Center Theater. Apr. 20 WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING PANEL DISCUSSION (Hubble Week event):  WestConn will host a discussion about "Women in Science and Engineering" at 8 a.m. in the Science Building on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Part of the university's Hubble Week celebration, the panel will provide information for girls and young women about careers in science and technology. Featured speakers will be Kerri Cahoy, an astrobiologist working with NASA; Suzanne Woll, manager of the systems department at United Technologies Research Center; Valentina Lugo, a mechanical design engineer at Hamilton Sundstrand; and Rachel Manzer, a science coach in the Suffield School District who is in training as a NASA teacher astronaut. Apr. 23 - Apr. 24 RELAY FOR LIFE:  WestConn will host the American Cancer Society "Relay for Life" from 6 p.m. on Friday, April 23, to 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, at the Feldman Arena in the O'Neill Center on the university's Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Apr. 24 SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FAIR (Hubble Week event):  WestConn will host a Science and Technology Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Science Building on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Part of the university's Hubble Week celebration, the fair will include demonstrations, vendors, experiments, tours of the Science Building, NASA giveaways, a NASA spacesuit and a one-fifth scale model of the Hubble Space Telescope. VISITOR PARKING ADVISORY: Western Connecticut State University offers several convenient, centrally located parking spaces for visitors to the university’s Midtown and Westside campuses in Danbury. Midtown visitor parking is in the lot next to Old Main and in designated spaces next to University Hall. Parking in the university’s White Street and Fifth Avenue garages is restricted to students, faculty and staff with hang-tags and/or parking stickers from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday; visitors are welcome to park in the garages all other times. Westside visitor parking is on University Boulevard. Visitors who cannot be accommodated in these parking areas are asked to call the University Police Department to make other arrangements.
