Anthony & Julia Caraluzzi Family Scholarship for ASB
Department: Ancell School of Business
Description: The scholarship was established by the Caraluzzi family for students enrolled in the Ancell School of Business. Students must have completed 30 credits, with a 3.5+ GPA and financial need. Students can be full or part time.
ATMI Scholarship
Department: Accounting. MIS, Computer Science, Chemistry
Description: This scholarship is given to a major in Accounting, MIS, Computer Science or Chemistry. The recipient must be a full-time student entering junior or senior year with a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate academic excellence in his or her chosen major, as well as financial need.
Fiorita, Kornhaas & Van Houten Accounting Scholarship

This scholarship was created by Fiorita, Kornhaas & Company, P.C. The recipient must have completed his/her junior year as a full time accounting major and have the highest GPA of all eligible candidates, with a Minimum GPA of 3.5.
John Fitzsimmons Accounting Scholarship

Description: The John Fitzsimmons Scholarship is presented to a junior or senior accounting major who displays outstanding potential in the field of accounting and business and has demonstrated excellent academic performance. This scholarship is given in memory of Professor Emeritus John Fitzsimmons.
Dante Cirilli / Grolier Direct Marketing Scholarship

Description: Funded by gifts from Grolier Inc. and Dante Cirilli on the occasion of Cirilli's retirement as president of Grolier Direct Marketing, this scholarhsip is granted to a full-time junior or senior WCSU student enrolled in the undergraduate direct marketing program.
Gino Arconti JLA Scholarship
Department: Justice & Law Administration
Description: This scholarhsip was established in 1999 in memory of former Danbury Mayor Gino Arconti in honor of his love and respect for constitutional law. Preference is given to juniors majoring in justice and law administration and success in constitutional law.
Harold Schramm Scholarship
Department: JLA Majors in the Paralegal Studies Program
Description: This scholarship was established in 2008 by Professor Emeritus of Justice and Law administration and of English, Dr. Harold Schramm. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and be recommended by their academic department. Preference will be given to JLA juniors in the paralegal studies program who demonstrate need.
Police Commissioners Association of Connecticut, Inc. Scholarship
Department: Justice & Law Administration
Description: The Police Commissioners Association of Connecticut, Inc. established this scholarship to be awarded to a full time junior or senior with a major in law enforcement or corrections studies. Recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Kenneth Keller Memorial Scholarship
Department: Management
Description: This scholarship benefits business majors with preference to those in small business management and entrepreneurship, a 3.3 GPA, and a minimum of 75 credits.
Charles E. Wrinn Memorial Scholarship
Department: Small Business Management
Description: The Housatonic Industrial Development Corporation (HIDC) created this scholarship in memory of Chuck Wrinn, longtime president of HIDC and avid supporter of WCSU and the Ancel School of Business. The scholarship will be given to a Small Business Management Student with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or better. He/she must be a Connecticut resident and demonstrate financial need.
Morton Family Scholarship for Academic Excellence
Department: Ancell School of Business
Description: This scholarship is endowed by Allen and Roberta Morton to recognize and reward outstanding academic performance among students in the Ancell School of Business. Scholarships will be awarded annually to both outstanding full-time and part-time students in their sophomore or junior year in the Ancell School of Business. Applicants must have a cumulative average GPA of 3.3 or higher and be recommended by their academic departments. Students are strongly encouraged to submit an essay with their application that discusses their academic goals and their plans for the future.
Dr. Victor Ruderman Memorial Scholarship - Graduate Studies & External Programs
Department: Education
Description: The scholarship provides support for full- or part-time students in the counselor education program and was established in 2000 by Dr. Lilyan Ruderman in memory of her husband. Recipients must have a minimum 2.8 GPA and have completed a minimum of 12 credits in the program. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need.

Description: These scholarships are made available by generous donations to the Masters of Fine Arts Department. Recipients are selected by the MFA Coordinator.
W.B. Connor Trust for Anne Sippi Fund Scholarship
Department: Art
Description: This scholarship was established in 2006 with a bequest from the William B. Connor Trust FBO Jane (Sippi) Henderson, who studied art at WCSU. The fund provides scholarships to promising art majors to encourage study abroad, at WCSU or at other supporting arts facilities for a period not to exceed two years.
Boehringer Ingelheim Biochemistry Scholarship
Department: Biochemistry
Description: This scholarship was created in 1985 by the Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation. It is to be given to student with exemplary academic performance in Biochemistry I Lecture, Biochemistry II Lecture and/or Biochemistry Laboratory.
Carl F. Norden Science Scholarship
Department: Biology, Chemistry or Physics
Description: The Barden Foundation, INC. established this scholarship in 2000, in memory of Carl F. Norden, co-founder of the Barden Corporation. It is presented to a full time junior and a full time senior majoring in biology, chemistry, or physics. Selected recipients must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better and have demonstrated financial need.

Carey Foundation Fund Scholarship
Department: Chemistry
Description: This scholarship was established in 1999 by Raymond Carey, of Danbury-based Carey Industries, to assist undergraduate chemistry students who demonstrate outstanding academic merit.

Description: This scholarship is given to a major in Accounting, MIS, Computer Science or Chemistry. The recipient must be a full-time student entering junior or senior year with a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate academic excellence in his or her chosen major, as well as financial need.
Dept. of Biological and Environmental Sciences Scholarship
Department: Biology
Description: This scholarship, established in 1999, is awarded to a student in the biology or medical technology programs. The Financial Aid Office will be contacted to make certain this award does not make the student ineligible for larger grants or scholarships. This scholarship will not be awarded in the 2009 - 2010 academic year.
Ronald S. Giordano Endowed Scholarship

Description: Deserving undergraduate students majoring in chemistry benefit from this scholarship established in memory of Chemistry Professor Dr. Ronald S. Giordano.
John V. Friel History Scholarship

Description: The John V. Friel Scholarship is given annually, and alternately by the History and Social Sciences departments. It is presented to a non-traditional history or social sciences major that best exemplifies the two qualities which marked John V. Friel’s life – namely, a zest for learning and commitment to helping others.
Bruce I. Goldsen Radio Broadcasting Scholarship

Description: Established by Bruce and Sue Goldsen, WestConn alumni, for scholarships for communication media arts majors who are full time students, have completed one year at WestConn and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Communication Department Emeritus Faculty Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was created in November 2007. “It is named in honor of Communication Department Faculty members whose service to the University has warranted granting them Emeritus status. This scholarship will be awarded to a full time, undergraduate Communication major who has earned 45 undergraduate credits by the beginning of the Spring semester.
The News-Times/Stephen A. Collins Memorial Scholarship
Department: Communication
Description: The scholarship was established for communication students interested in journalism and writing, with 45 credits and a resident of a town served by The News Times. It was created by The News-Times in memory of Stephen A. Collins, a News-Times employee for more than 50 years.
Arnold C. Brackman Memorial Scholarship

Description: The scholarship was established in 1984 in honor of Arnold C. Brackman, founder of the journalism program at WCSU, to provide scholarships for junior or senior journalism students in good academic standing who have exhibited potential in the field of journalism.
Elizabeth Tulloch James Memorial Scholarship (Estate Endowment)

Description: The Elizabeth Tulloch James Scholarship was established in 1992 by a bequest from the Estate of Elizabeth Tulloch James, who was the first chairman of the English faculty at WCSU. This scholarship is to be awarded each year to a Danbury-area student who is currently a WCSU English major and a junior in good standing. It recognizes the student most distinguished for scholarship in English and his or her contributions to the extracurricular life of the English department.
John Tamas Memorial Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established in 2005 in memory of John Tamas, a WCSU student who passed away in his senior year at the university. It is awarded to a junior or senior creative writing or literature major with an enthusiastic attitude toward scholarly pursuits and/or creative writing and a 3.0 GPA.
Dr. John M. Tufts Memorial Scholarship
Department: English
Description: This scholarship was established by Dr. Alice L. Carolan in honor of Dr. John M. Tufts, her late husband. Dr. Tufts loved working with struggling minority students at WCSU. The selected student should be a minority to whom this would provide a tremendous lift to heart and spirit. Student must also be an English major and exhibit financial need.
Ruth M. Dawson Scholarship
Department: Professional Writing Program
Description: This scholarship was created in 2006 by Professor Dennis Dawson in memory of his mother, Ruth M. Dawson. Students must be full time students and have a 3.5 GPA from the School of Arts & Sciences. The recipient must also be entering their junior or senior year and have exceptional talent in creative science writing or science journalism. This scholarship will not be awarded for 2009 - 2010 academic year.
Robert P. Kelleher Scholarship
Department: Professional Writing Program
Description: This scholarship was established with funds received in memory of Robert P. Kelleher, an English and Professional Writing student at WCSU. It is awarded to a junior or senior student in the Professional Writing Program, who is in good academic standing.
Dr. Mel Goldstein Scholarship
Department: Physics/Astronomy/Meteorology
Description: This endowment was created to provide scholarships to sophomores, juniors or seniors who are majoring in meteorology. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are in the top 10 percentile of the class, preferably in the theoretical meteorology track. Applicants must be involved in meteorology department activities, as well actively participating in the Weather Center and/or Meteorology Club.
Scott Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Dr. Robert M. & Joyce Komanee Scott Scholarship in Astronomy)
Department: Physics/Astronomy/Meteorology
Description: This memorial scholarship was established in 1997 and is awarded to an astronomy senior or first-year graduate student who is pursuing a degree in astronomy. The scholarship is in memory of Dr. Scott who played an important role in the negotiation of the Perkin Fund, a grant which allowed WestConn to obtain an automated 20-inch RC telescope.
Jonathan Mottley Memorial Scholarship
Department: Physics/Astronomy/Meteorology
Description: This scholarship is awarded to the student who has completed the second year of the WCSU meteorology undergraduate program with the highest G.P.A. with at least one semester at WCSU. It was established in 1998 in memory of WCSU student Jonathan Mottley.
W. Robert Vaden Scholarship in Mathematics

Description: The scholarship is awarded to a student who loves mathematics and believes that all can learn.
Professor Edwin Rosenberg Scholarship
Department: Mathematics
Description: The Professor (Emeritus) Edwin Rosenberg Scholarship was established with funds received from his former student, Doris Lundberg, M.D. This scholarship honors Professor Rosenberg’s inspiration to a generation of WestConn students through his excellence and dedication to the teaching of mathematics. This scholarship is awarded to a full time mathematics major with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need.
Truman A. Warner Scholarship - alternates between History (even years)/Social Sciences (odd years)
Department: Social Sciences or History
Description: This scholarship, established in 1997 in memory of WCSU Professor Emeritus Truman A. Warner, is awarded to a history, American studies or social sciences major with junior standing and a minimum GPA of 3.0. The recipient must demonstrate significant achievement, breadth of intellectual interest, and service to the university and community.
Arthur & Alberta Rosien Memorial Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established in 1999 through a bequest from alumnus Arthur Rosien. Recipients must be full-time political science majors with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better.
Michael Vaden-Kiernan Scholarship in Community Psychology

Description: The scholarship was established in 2006 by Linda Vaden-Goad to benefit a student studying community psychology who believes in the significance of community in creating better lives for all.
Veronica Hagman Memorial Scholarship
Department: Psychology
Description: Established by her parents in 2005, this scholarship is in memory of Veronica Hagman, a psychology major, who died during her senior year. Recipients must be female, and have a minimum 3.5 GPA and at least 70 credits of which 40 are at WCSU.
Elizabeth Fields Women's Studies Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established in 2006 by Linda Vaden-Goad for students in Women's Studies.
Peggy Will Koschel Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Department: Medical Technology (awarded in even years) Theatre Arts (awarded in odd years)
Description: This scholarship was established by the family of Margaret (Peggy) Will Koschel in 2008 to assist full time undergraduate students majoring in theatre arts or medical technology. Peggy, an alumna from the class of 1951, is being remembered for actively being involved with her alma mater and the Danbury Community. Recipients must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and have completed a minimum of 60 undergraduate credits at WestConn. Students must also have financial need.

Colleen Stewart Memorial Scholarship
Department: Education
Description: This scholarship was established in 2006 by Dr. Albert Stewart in memory of his wife, Colleen. It is to be used for scholarships to education majors who might need assistance when unexpected set backs arise that might prevent them from continuing their education at WestConn.
Mary Edgett Endowed Scholarship
Department: Education
Description: This scholarship was established in 2008 and celebrates the life and career achievements of Mary Edgett, WestConn's oldest living alumna. This scholarship is awarded annually to a full time undergraduate student entering their junior or senior year and majoring in education. Eligible students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and have completed a minimum of 60 undergraduate credits towards a degree from WestConn. Recipients should intend to pursue a career in teaching upon graduation.
Robert Schappert Scholarship
Department: Music Education
Description: The Robert Schappert Scholarship was established in 2006 and is awarded to a music education major who will graduate this coming May. Special consideration for this need-based scholarship will be given to full time students from a working-class family with a strong GPA.
Union Savings Bank/Thomas R. Nolan Scholarship
Department: Education
Description: This scholarship was established in 2000 on the occasion of Thomas R. Nolan's retirement as chairman of the Board of Trustees at Union Savings Bank. The award may be granted to a full-time junior or senior majoring in secondary education with a concentration in English writing. Applicants should intend to pursue a career in teaching upon graduation and demonstrate a proficiency in writing. The scholarship will be presented at least every other year, with the award amount to be determined annually. A committee of education faculty and English chair will recommend a recipient.
Union Savings Bank - Sturdevant Family Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established in 2004 by Union Savings Bank to honor the Sturdevant family. Scholarships are to be awarded to students entering their junior or senior year who are pursuing a career in teaching mathematics, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and exhibit financial need.

Dr. Joseph B. Cherry Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Department: Nursing
Description: This scholarship is presented to Greater Danbury area nursing students with a minimum 3.1 GPA, who demonstrates academic excellence. The student must have a conscientious commitment to nursing and have a caring and holistic approach to patients and their care. It was established in 1999 by Mrs. Joseph B. Cherry to honor the memory of her husband, Dr. Joseph B. Cherry.
Frances S. Weigler Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established in 1989 by the family of Frances S. Weigler to honor her memory. It is presented to an outstanding sophomore nursing student.
New Beginnings Nursing Scholarship
Department: Nursing
Description: This scholarship was established by Mario Mesi in memory of his sister Millicent Ratta in 2007 for undergraduate nursing majors. The recipients are either incoming students or those entering their junior or senior year. They must be considered non-traditional (older) students, Connecticut residents and demonstrate financial need.
Paul L. Jones Nursing Scholarship

Description: This competitive scholarship, supported by an educational trust established under the will of Douglas P. Jones, supports scholarships for graduates of Connecticut high schools who reside in the state and are enrolled in WestConn’s nursing program.
Professor Albert "Tuck" Alciene Memorial Scholarship
Department: Nursing
Description: Established in 2002, this scholarship is awarded to a registered nurse who is a student in the RN-BSN Program at WCSU in memory of Tuck Alciene, who was a professor in the nursing department. He is remembered for his great insight into human behavior, an uplifting sense of humor, strong commitment to classroom and bedside teaching, caring encouragement to nursing students and devotion to the nursing profession.
Tom & Lois Crucitti Nursing Scholarship

Description: The scholarship was established in 2001 by alumni Lois, Class of 1971 R.N. nursing, and Tom Crucitti, Class of 1969 medical technology. The recipient must be a full-time nursing student with a minimum 3.0 GPA in his/her core curriculum who has completed at least 30 credits at WCSU, and exhibit some financial need.
Susan B. and Henry G. Tritter Scholarship alternates between Theatre Arts (even years)/Nursing (odd years)
Department: Nursing
Description: This scholarship was established by Susan B. and Henry G. Tritter to assist undergraduate students majoring in nursing and theatre arts. As of the beginning of the spring semester students will have earned a minimum of 60 undergraduate credits toward a degree at WestConn. A minimum 3.5 GPA. is required.. The academic department will identify a student who shows promise of professional success in his/her field of study.
Laura Duffy Memorial Scholarship
Department: Social Work
Description: This scholarship was established in memory of Laura Duffy, a non-traditional social work student who died in 1995 after a long battle with cancer. In conjunction with the department of social work, Duffy's family established the award to benefit a social work major who has demonstrated a longtime commitment to community service and embodies the warmth and caring Duffy had. Additional consideration will be given to members of Phi Alpha Social Work honor society.
Scott Andrews Memorial Scholarship
Department: Social Work
Description: The scholarship was established in memory of Scott Andrews, a social work major who died in the spring of 1992 as the result of a fire in a house adjacent to the university. The award is presented to a returning student who will be entering his/her junior or senior year in the social work program and demonstrates a commitment to helping others. Preference is given to students from single-parent families. Social work faculty members select the recipient with input from Andrews' parents.
Craig Lundwall Memorial Scholarship
Department: Social Work
Description: The Craig Lundwall Memorial Scholarship was established in 2001, shortly after the untimely death of Craig Lundwall, Class of 1998. His parents, family and friends chose to memorialize Craig through an academic and need-based scholarship for a social work major at WestConn. This is a most fitting tribute, since Craig was a true intellectual, cherishing the opportunity to learn and demanding high academic standards of himself and colleagues. It is also fitting that the scholarship be awarded to a social work major with demonstrated financial need, since Craig cared deeply about those in need, serving as their advocate. Only social work majors are eligible. A social work faculty committee selects the recipient. Preference given to a senior social work student.

James Furman Memorial Music Endowed Scholarship

Description: This scholarship is presented to the student who best exemplifies the highest level of musical performance ability, scholastic standing, and contributions to the department. The award honors the memory and musical excellence of James Furman, a former member of the department. Selected by special audition.
James Somers Opera Scholarship
Department: Music Major studying Opera
Description: This scholarship was created by Judith Somers in memory of her husband James Somers. It is awarded to a talented opera student as recommended by the music department.
Roger Winward Scholarship
Department: Music
Description: This scholarship was established by Robert Schappert in 2005 for music education majors with financial need. Criteria includes anticipated graduation the coming May and a strong GPA. Special consideration for this need-based scholarship will be given to students from a working-class family.
Schoolmasters Special Scholarship
Department: Music
Description: This scholarship was established in 2005 by an anonymous donor in memory of Joel Kannengeiser to support music scholarships. This scholarship benefits a student who is majoring in music or music education with a record of academic achievement and who possess extraordinary singing or musical talent. The recipient must be a Connecticut resident, with a strong GPA, and exhibit some financial need.
Rich Reimold Theatre Arts Scholarship

Description: This scholarship, named in honor of Professor Emeritus Richard Reimold of the WCSU theatre arts department, provides scholarships for full time sophomore or junior theatre arts majors with a min 2.0 GPA.
Young Family Theatre Scholarship

Description: The scholarship was established in 2000 by Roy and Ginny Young to provide support for theatre arts majors. A nominee is recommended by the theatre arts department and must demonstrate financial need. The recipient must be a full time student who has completed at least 15 credits toward a theatre arts major and have a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Description: This scholarship was established by Susan B. and Henry G. Tritter to assist undergraduate students majoring in nursing and theatre arts. Walton Group Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established by Professor Emeritus William Walton for theatre students who have made a major contribution to their department.
Aspiring Artist Scholarship
Department: Theatre Arts
Description: This scholarship was established in 2009 for a theatre arts major, entering his/her junior year, with a strong GPA and has intentions to either pursue graduate studies in theatre or to be a professional artist. The recipient must also be a U.S. citizen.
Clarke Dunham Design Scholarship
Department: Design
Description: Clarke Dunham is a scenic designer who owns Dunham Studios. WestConn theatre arts students are given the opportunity to work with Mr. Dunham each year. He recognizes the hard work and talent WCSU students’ possess. In appreciation, Mr. Dunham has created this scholarship for a design/technology student.
Howard Hobbs Memorial Scholarship
Department: Visual & Performing Arts
Description: This scholarship was established in 1990 to honor the memory of Professor Howard Hobbs of the social sciences department (anthropology). It is awarded every other year (even years) to a student in music, art, theatre, or athletics on the basis of his/her academic achievement, with preference given to a student admitted under the Special and Talented Program (now the Honors Program).

Grace B. Wheeler Robertson Estate Endowed Scholarship
Department: Open to all majors
Description: This scholarship was established in 1988 by the estate of Grace Banks Wheeler Robertson, a 1915 graduate of the Danbury Normal School. The scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding sophomore student from each school to be used in their junior and senior years. The university's undergraduate school deans select one scholarship recipient based on outstanding academic ability.
Isabelle T. Farrington Scholarship
Department: Open to all majors
Description: Established in 2000 by WCSU alumna Isabelle Farrington, this scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student of good character with a class ranking in the top 10 percent and who will be entering their junior or senior year.
WCSU Foundation President's Scholarship
Department: Open to all majors
Description: The WCSU Foundation established this fund to support a President's award to a graduating senior who demonstrates outstanding academic performance.
Ruth A. Haas Scholarship
Department: Open to all majors
Description: The scholarship was established to honor Ruth A. Haas, president of WCSU from 1946 to 1975. Student should show leadership within the university and community and have a strong GPA.
Savings Bank of Danbury – A. Searle Pinney Scholarship
Department:Open to all Majors
Description: This scholarship was created by the Savings Bank of Danbury during the WCSU Centennial Campaign in memory of A. Searle Pinney, former Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for Connecticut State University. Scholarships are awarded by the Savings Bank of Danbury.
Sodexo Scholarship
Department: Open to all majors
Description: Sodexo provided $50,000 for scholarships to full time matriculated students.
The Richard H. Sullivan Scholarship
Department: Institutional Advancement
Description: This scholarship was established by Richard H. Sullivan, a retired WCSU Vice President of Finance and Administration, in honor and memory of the extraordinary friends and co-workers he interacted with during his more than 30-year tenure at WestConn. It reflects his desire to recognize members of the classified service. Dependents of full-time WCSU employees in the classified service who are matriculated in good academic standing and can show financial need are eligible to apply.
Union Savings Bank Endowed Scholarship
Department: Open to all Majors
Description: These scholarships were created by Union Savings Bank in 2002 during WCSU’s Centennial Campaign. Students must be in good academic standing, and demonstrate financial need. Students must live in western Connecticut, defined as from Waterbury to the New York border and from Massachusetts border to Long Island.

Arlyne M. O'Boy Scholarship Fund

Description: This fund was established in 1989 by the estate of Arlyne M. O'Boy. In accordance with her last will and testament, "Said income is to be used by it for the education of a needy and deserving student or students who shall be chosen by the president of Western Connecticut State University, or by the faculty of said college under his or her direction. Particular but not exclusive consideration will be given to students of the Danbury-Bethel area.
Esadora George Scholarship

Description: The Esadora George Scholarship is offered for academic achievement and awarded annually to a currently enrolled or incoming student at WestConn. Preference is given to students from the Danbury area who are of Lebanese descent.
Kenneth R. Fryer Memorial Scholarship
Department: Open to all majors
Description: The scholarship is awarded each year as a memorial to Kenneth R. Fryer, a former student and son of WCSU Professor Emeritus Russell Fryer. It is presented to qualified and deserving minority students.
Roy Young Community Service Scholarship

Description: The WCSU Foundation created this scholarship in 1998 to honor Roy Young's many years of service to the university and the Danbury community. The recipient must be a full-time WestConn student who has been involved with one or more charitable organizations in Greater Danbury, completed a minimum of 15 credits and a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Macricostas Family Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established in 2002 by Deno and Marie Macricostas through the Macricostas Family Foundation. Students must have financial need and be immigrants in the U.S. less than eight years.
Hawley Family Endowed Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established by the Hawley family in 2002 for graduating seniors from three local high schools: Danbury, Henry Abbott Tech and Immaculate, who will attend Western Connecticut State University in the coming fall semester. Scholarships will be awarded to students with a minimum 3.0 high school GPA who are committed to becoming a full-time student with an academic major in the Ancell School of Business and have some financial need.

Description: This scholarship was established by the Rizzo family in 2003 for graduating seniors from three local high schools: Danbury High, Henry Abbott Tech., and Immaculate who will attend Western Connecticut State University in the coming fall semester. Scholarships will be awarded to students with a minimum 2.8 high school GPA who are committed to becoming a full-time student with an academic major in the Ancell School of Business and can demonstrate financial need. Irfan Kathwari Foundation Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established by M. Farooq Kathwari in honor of his son, Irfan Kathwari, to support minority students in the teacher education program. Kathwari, the president, chairman and CEO of Ethan Allen Inc., created the award to recruit promising students to WCSU's teacher education program. Preference is given to Danbury inner-city minority high school seniors who want to pursue careers teaching K-12 in the Danbury public schools.

Description: These funds are made available from the generous donations of Mary and Rudy Behrens. Funds from this donation will support scholarships, costs associated with student performances, and other projects identified by the Chair of the Department of Music. Students are selected by audition.
Valery G. Cunningham Music Education Scholarship

Description: Awarded by the Department of Music Chair for Excellence in percussion performance. Recipient must be an incoming freshman with financial need. This scholarship was established by Mrs. Murphy in memory of part-time percussion instructor, Charles Murphy. Awarded by audition, with consideration given to financial need.

Schoolmasters Special Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established in 2005 by an anonymous donor in memory of Joel Kannengeiser to support music scholarships. This scholarship benefits a student who is majoring in music or music education with a record of academic achievement and who possess extraordinary singing or musical talent. The recipient must be a Connecticut resident, with a strong GPA, and exhibit some financial need.
Julius Baker Music Scholarship

Description: This Scholarship is awarded to a talented Flutist as recommended by the music department. Awarded by audition.
Music Department Development Fund Scholarship

Description: This fund was created in 1999 and is designed to further the activities of the department, especially in areas not normally funded by the State of Connecticut. These activities include community building, speakers, symposia, exhibits, and guest artists. This fund may also be used for music scholarships.
Rose Londa Heyman Scholarship

Description: This scholarship was established by a bequest from Rose L. Heyman, a 1927 graduate, who received her master's degree from WCSU in 1963. Recipients must be full-time music majors from Fairfield or Litchfield County. Preference is given to Danbury residents. Awarded by audition, with consideration given to financial need.

Description: This scholarship was established by the Caraluzzi Family for students entering WCSU from Bethel or Immaculate High Schools. Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA, exhibit some financial need and contact their High School Counselor for application.
Fresh Start Scholarship

Description: WCSU alumna Shirley Ferris established this scholarship to support non-traditional students. Recipients must be female, first-year or returning undergraduates who are 30 to 55 years old as of the beginning of the fall semester for which they receive the scholarship. The student must achieve a minimum 3.0 GPA. to receive the scholarship for the second semester.
President-to-President Scholarship
Department: Open to all incoming students from Naugatuck Valley Community College
Description: The scholarship covers in-state tuition and fees for two years and is awarded to an outstanding graduating Naugatuck Valley Community College student who has been accepted to WCSU. The scholarship is awarded for academic excellence (minimum 3.3 GPA.) and commitment to continued pursuit of higher education. May Sherwood Memorial Alumni Scholarship

Description: The scholarship was established to honor May Sherwood, a WCSU alumna and former head of the education department, for her unselfish dedication to her profession and to her students. American Association of University Women Scholarship

Description: The Danbury area branch of the American Association of University Women offers the scholarship to a student who has successfully completed three years of college and is completing a bachelor's degree at WestConn. The Danbury Garden Club Scholarship

Description: This Scholarship is awarded by the Danbury Garden Club to a full-time student studying plant biology, ecology, conservation or a related field.

The Khalda Logan Inspiration Scholarship

Description: The “Khalda Logan Inspiration Scholarship” is an annual scholarship to be awarded to a student who embodies the compassion, spirit and drive that Professor Khalda Logan-Eaton displayed throughout her life. Students must have a concentration in media communications, dance or education, completed a minimum of 60 credits with a 3.5 minimum grade point average and financial need. Applicants will be asked to read a biography about Logan-Eaton and respond in a 1,000-word essay to a question.
