NO. 7 TRINITY BASEBALL MOVES TO 20-0 WITH WIN OVER WESTERN CONNECTICUT

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore Jeremiah Bayer (Greenfield, Mass.) pitched six strong innings to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 14-2 win over the visiting Western Connecticut State University Colonials to keep their undefeated record intact today at Campus Field. Trinity's 20-0 record is their best-ever start.

The offense racked up 13 hits and drew ten walks, and four different pitchers combined to allow just one earned run for the Bantams who are the No. 7 ranked Div. III team in the nation as of today. Trinity is just one of two teams in the top 25 that remain undefeated.

The Bantams wasted no time putting runs on the board against the Colonials as senior leadoff hitter Chandler Barnard (Lubbock, Tx.) walked and scored on an RBI groundout from sophomore Kent Graham (Longmeadow, Mass.) to open the game. Two batters later, senior Thomas DiBenedetto (Fort Myers, Fl.) hit Graham home with a groundout to put the Bantams up 2-0, a lead they would not let go of.

Bayer allowed just one earned run in six innings, striking out six and walking one, leaving the game with a 12-2 lead. The Colonials run came on an RBI double by senior Matt Gardiner (Terryville, Conn.) who had two hits in the game. Sophomore Vinny Ferraiuolo (Orlando, Fl.) reached base three times for Western Connecticut.

Bantam senior Matt Stafford (Plymouth, Mass.) hit a towering opposite field homerun to add to the Trinity lead in the fifth, and Graham followed that up later in the inning with a line drive shot over the centerfield wall for the team's 11th and 12th runs of the afternoon.

Junior Eric McGrath (Lynn, Mass.), first-year Andrew Janiga (Ellington, Conn.), and sophomore Jason Simoni (Old Saybrook, Conn.) combined to shut down the Colonials in the final three innings, allowing no hits and striking out four.
