Borzillo Registers Four Points as Field Hockey Shuts Out WestConn, 3-0

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 5, 2007) – Sophomore forward Kara Borzillo (Mount Laurel, N.J.) recorded a goal and two assists (four points) Wednesday night at the De Baun Athletic Complex as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team won its third game in a row, blanking Western Connecticut State University, 3-0.

The Ducks (3-0), who out-shot the Colonials (1-1) by a 45-4 count in the contest, reached the scoreboard first in the 26th-minute when junior midfielder Hillary Paul (Concord, N.H.), who accumulated a game-high 18 shots in the match, placed a 15-yard shot from the far-right wing into the left corner of the cage off of a feed from Borzillo.

In the closing half, Stevens took a 2-0 advantage when junior midfielder Allison Shields (Mahopac, N.Y.) connected on a shot from the top of the circle off of a corner-pass from Borzillo with 13:57 remaining. One minute later, Borzillo found the back of the cage when she pushed a shot into the left corner of the net off of a cross-pass from sophomore forward Courtney Geddis (Jackson, N.J.).

Ducks’ junior keeper Stephanie Smith (Hockessin, Del.) made two saves in her first start of the season, while Colonials rookie goaltender Sandra Vermeulen (Riverdale, N.J.) turned aside a game-high 24 shots.
