Sarah Schloss nets game winner for New Paltz

DANBURY, CT— Freshman forward Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake, NY) scored the game's only goal and SUNY New Paltz held on to defeat Western Connecticut State University in field hockey action at The Westside Athletic Complex Wednesday afternoon.
     Schloss collected a pass from Megan Flynn (Massapequa, NY) on the left side of the goal mouth in the 26th minute of play and deposited into the back of the goal.
     The Hawks' defense, led by freshman keeper Elizabeth Dini (Sayville, NY), held on the rest of the way to end their three-game losing streak.
     Sandra Vermeulen (Riverdale, NJ) and Christina Natale (Farmington, CT) split time in goal for the Colonials. Vermeulen did not make a save in the first half while Natale turned away four shots over the final 35 minutes.
     WestConn, now 2-3, hosts University of Southern Maine at The WAC on Saturday, September 15 at 12 p.m.
