Romyns, Hanks earn regional and Little East Conference recognition

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Western Connecticut State University senior forward Cortney Romyns (Newton, N.J.) and Westfield State College senior goalkeeper Cat Hanks (Somers, Conn.) were named to the ECAC Division III weekly awards program this afternoon.

She was also named Player of the Week by the Little East Conference on Monday.

Romyns claimed her second weekly accolade in the past 24 hours, earning the ECAC Division III Co-Player of the Week honors. She also the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Romyns recorded 12 points, including six goals, to lead Western Connecticut to a 2-2 mark. She opened her senior season in style, scoring all five goals to lift the Colonials to a 5-1 victory at Wheelock on Sept. 1. Romyns jump-started the comeback victory at Fitchburg State, registering the equalizer in the 45th minute, as WestConn edged the Falcons (2-1) in the conference opener on Sept. 8.

Hanks was steller between the pipes for Westfield State this past week, leading the Owls to a 3-0 mark. She allowed just one goal and recorded 23 saves in wins over Smith (2-1), Worcester State (1-0), and Elms (7-0). Hanks made a season-high 12 stops against the Lancers to earn her first shutout of the campaign. She sports a 0.36 goals against average and a .958 save percentage. Hanks was selected the ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week.
