WestConn and Endicott to battle for
WCSU Holiday Tournament title on Sunday

DANBURY, CT – (Nov. 29) - The Western Connecticut State University men’s basketball team defeated Johnson State College, 78-59 and Endicott College beat Medgar Evers College, 74-63 in the opening rounds of the WCSU Holiday Tournament at Feldman Arena Saturday night.

In the opener, Dashon Jennings and Daquan Brooks scored 18 and 16 points, respectively to lead the Colonials in the victory.  Dewayne Dickens added 12 points for WestConn, now 3-1 and winners of two straight.  The tandem converted on 14 of 33 field-goal attempts on the night.

Gary Robinson pulled in a game-high eight rebounds for the winners.

John Foley was the only Johnson State College player in double figures with a game-high 20 markers.

After falling behind, 3-2 in the opening minutes, WestConn went on a 14-0 run, capped off by a long three pointer by Brooks with 14:02 remaining in the first half.  The Colonials were never threatened from that point forward.

In the nightcap, three Endicott players, Bobby Montrond, Graham Whitelaw and Ross Stewart, scored 11 points apiece to lead the Gulls.  Erik Callo and Chris Galbraith added eight points apiece to the balanced offensive attack.

Whitelaw pulled in a team-high eight boards for the Gulls.

For Medgar Evers, Marcus Archer scored a tournament-high 22 points on 9 of 17 shooting from the floor.  He canned 4 of 9 from beyond the arch while leading the Cougars on the defensive end with five steals.

Kallai Sharpe added 12 and Ronald Holloway 11 in the loss.  Ronald Bowan had 10 points and yanked down a game-high 12 caroms for MEC.

Medgar Evers will face Johnson State in the consolation game on Sunday at 1 pm while WestConn takes on Endicott in the championship at 3 pm.
