WestConn men's tennis wins eighth straight
with 9-0 victory over Rutgers-Newark
DANBURY, CT (Apr. 22) — The WestConn men's tennis team ran its win streak to eight matches with a 9-0 victory over Rutgers-Newark on Thursday afternoon at Westside Courts.
The Colonials got strong play from Tyler Brown (Sherman, CT) and Andrew Kelley (Weston, CT) at second and third singles winning 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively.
John Phillips (Hartford, CT) played a tough match against William Cheung (Kearny, NJ) winning in three sets and teaming up with Troy Pandolfi (Danbury, CT ) in doubles for a 8-2 win.
The Colonials captured wins at three doubles and six singles from forfeits by Rutgers-Newark.
Other winners for the Colonials include, Chris Turner (Brookfield, CT) over Nate Kijpatanasilp (North Bergen, NJ), 6-1, 6-0 at #4 singles and Kyle Wilson (Naugatuck, CT) over Vinay Mehta 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles.
Kelley and Werner teamed up to defeat Bodoy and Kijpatanasilp at second doubles, 8-1.
WestConn will visit conference rivals Southern Maine (Gorham,ME) this Saturday, April 24. The match begins at 4 pm.
