Shelby Slie and Kristen Lugovich Named to ECAC All-Star Team

CENTERVILLE, MA (June 18) – Senior pitcher Shelby Slie (Seymour, CT) and senior second baseman Kristen Lugovich (West Haven, CT) were named to the 2008 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III New England Softball All-Star Team. Slie was honored on the First Team while Lugovich reeped Second-Team honors.

Slie became the fifth consecutive student-athlete over the past eight seasons to repeat as the conference’s top pitcher. The native of Seymour, Conn. led the Little East Conference in batters struck out (162), earned run average (1.31), and opposing batting average (.221), while ranking second in wins (15). In 28 appearances, Slie posted a 15-6 overall record and went the distance in 14 contests. A dominant strikeout pitcher, she fanned at least 10 batters in seven games, including a season-high 12 against Plymouth State University on April 11. Slie held her opposition scoreless in 14 contests this season, including a five-game span between March 18 and March 27.

Lugovich, who batted in the two hole throughout her final season, led the Colonials with a .398 batting average and 20 sacrifice bunts. She was tied for second on the team with 43 hits, second with 41 runs scored and turned in a stellar performance in the field with a .962 fielding average. Her keen eye at the dish helped her work out a team-high 31 walks in '08.
