Greg Poole was named the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach in March of 2006.
In his first season, the Colonials went 8-16 overall and qualified for the Little East Conference Tournament with a 4-3 record.
“Having coached at the college level in New England for the past 10 years, I am well aware of the rich tradition of excellence
that is associated with the Western
Connecticut State University volleyball program,” said Poole. “There is a tremendous
opportunity to develop Western Connecticut State University back into one of the top programs in the Little East Conference (LEC) and in New England.”
Poole most recently served as the head Women’s Volleyball Coach and Coordinator of Intramurals and Recreation at Western New England
College in Springfield, MA.
He compiled a 136-114 record (54.4%) in nine seasons as the Head Coach of the Golden Bears. He led is teams to three straight 20-win seasons from 2000-04 and advanced to the semifinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament the last six seasons.
Over the past seven years, Poole has coached many of his athletes to individual honors and accomplishments within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and the New England Women’s Volleyball Association
(NEWVA).
Under Poole’s guidance, twelve players have been named to the GNAC All-Conference Teams, one player has been named the GNAC Rookie of the Year, one player has been named the GNAC Most Valuable Player, and one player has been named to the NEWVA senior All-Star Classic.
Poole’s Teams have also maintained a high academic standard as twenty-five players have been awarded Academic All-Conference honors,
1 Academic All-American, and an average team Grade Point Average
of 3.1.
“This is an exciting time for Western Connecticut State University Women’s Volleyball. I am committed to recruiting student athletes who have the desire to play at the highest level, and achieve great things in the classroom. My hope is that every volleyball player who has the honor to play here looks back on her experience as something special!” stated Poole.
Poole, a native of Fairport, New York, is a 1996 graduate of Springfield
College where he was a member of the men’s volleyball team for 3 seasons. He has also been the head boy’s volleyball coach at Belchertown
High School (MA) and works various camps and clinics throughout New England during the summer months.
