Hands-on experiences teach life lessons both on- and off-campus
WestConn is located in Danbury, a small city characterized by its economic vibrancy, diversity and cultural riches. WestConn has become part of the community by lending a hand to help those in need and bringing together a wide-range of people from different backgrounds and experiences. Those experiences are shared by WestConn students as they immerse themselves in the myriad opportunities to share their talents and skills by giving their time in the community.
Starting the day right with a healthy breakfast isn’t an option for everyone — but starting the day out by helping others is an option for WestConn students.

For the past two years, WestConn students have been helping dish up wholesome breakfasts to 100 people in need two mornings a week at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House in Danbury. From 6:30 to 9 a.m., several students assist the home’s staff by prepping, serving and cleaning-up after meals that include everything from pancakes and eggs to cereal and fruit. Meals include whole-grain cereals, fruit, juice and hot pancakes and eggs.
Friar Michael Lasky of the Newman Center at WestConn started “Morning Glory Breakfast,” which is sponsored by Catholic Charities. The program has since grown from two mornings a week to a daily morning meal through the help of the community.
