WCSU degree in-hand, Lane is ready to give back
After several years working as a financial services employee recruiter, Jillian Lane decided to abandon the corporate world and go back to school. She chose to work toward a master's degree in counseling "so I could pursue a more personally fulfilling career,” she says. At WestConn, there is a real sense of professionalism in the way the professors prepare the students to go into the field.
In considering where to undertake her studies, Lane considered many variables — including location and the convenience of evening classes — but ultimately she placed the most emphasis on the quality of the program. That’s why she came to WestConn.
“I looked at other schools,” Lane says. “Location was a big part of it, but I had a very good feeling after meeting Assistant Professor of Education and Educational Psychology Dr. Michael Gilles. He truly cares about his students and the field of counseling. I was impressed by his sense of investment in the field and his interest in having his students go out into that field as the strongest professionals we could possibly be.”
Gilles, who was Lane’s adviser, wasn’t the only professor in the counselor education program to leave an impression.
“The diversity of my professors’ experiences all were so different, and their sharing of their experiences was invaluable,” Lane says. “At WestConn, there is a real sense of professionalism in the way the professors prepare the students to go into the field.”
Lane believes her fellow students enhanced her WestConn experience as well.
